10.10.10 – “Serve & Sit”

26 09 2010

I can’t believe we are only 2 weeks away from 10.10.10.  The hype is building.  I am not sure if everyone knows what is taking place, but it is going to be amazing!  We are kicking off our “Relational Rehab” series that Sunday – after all, everyone needs a little rehab!  It is going to be a fun series – great opportunity to invite family and friends to experience The Point!

We need some help.  We are asking our volunteers to “serve” in one service and “sit” in the other on 10.10.10.  What does that mean?  If you serve at the 9:15 am – we would like you to sit in the 10:30 am or if you serve in the 10:30 am come and sit in the 9:15 am.  We are pushing this very hard.  A mass mailing to 2 mile radius of our theater.  Newspaper ads.  Personal invites.  This will allow BOTH services to feel FULL … making our guests feel VERY comfortable and the energy to be cranking.

This is an opportunity for our church and not an obligation.  You are not just volunteers – you are an expression of God’s love to everyone that walks in the theater doors!!!  Let’s break the 200 barrier on 10.10.10.

New Connection Cards

20 09 2010

We are gearing up for 10.10.10 with a bunch of new branding items – from Connection Cards to Prayer Cards to Volunteer Cards.  Lots of changes happening as we look to expand the impact of The Point on Long Island.

Here’s our new Connection Card:

It mirrors our website.  Brings connectivity to online guests who have decided to visit.  Plus when a guest goes to our website after a service – they see the connection.

Starting on 10.10.10 every guest will receive a FREE Stainless Steel Travel Mug compliments of The Point.

More Lessons from the Jonas Brothers

24 08 2010

I never thought I could learn so much from a band, but the more I apply what I saw at a concert to what I see in churches I get some pretty random thoughts.

So here’s a few more lessons:

1.  There is a disconnect between Sunday and the rest of the week.
It is crazy to think that a church could sing the same song for 1 year and people still need the lyrics on the screen in order to sing-a-long. That means that the music we sing is never making it out of our church services – people are not listening to the songs we sing in church in their homes or while driving the car.  We are majorly disconnected.  How do we bridge that gap?

2.  The church promotes too much.
Sitting at the Jonas Brothers concert they promoted one thing all night – it was ONE IDEA/CONCEPT – Camp Rock 2.  It is all every person who had a mic pumped and promoted.  Fans screaming every time the word “Camp Rock” was said.  Churches should narrow the focus too, by minimizing efforts and focusing on their vision and values.  Camp Rock 2 is coming out Sept 3.  How do I know that?  They repeated it 200 times.

3.  People will pay for things that move them.
Tithing the untouchable topic in the church today.  Why don’t people give?  I think there are a million reasons, but I can tell you that when people’s lives are changed by the presence of God they are compelled to.  I bought 2 pretzels and 2 drinks for $24 at the concert … ouch.  The average Christian gives less than 2% of their income to the church of their choice.  I am so glad God is not stingy with me!  Help me never to be too cheap for Him.

4. Life matters.  Talk about real life.
I have met a lot of people who have a lot of information.  They can break apart a verse of Scripture and say it in Hebrew/Greek, but they can’t make it relevant to life.   Jonas Brothers sing about dating/love/life – churches should talk about it.  Church cannot be only about information it must be about life transformation.  How does this relate to my life?  Where I am?

5.  Redeem Technology.
Churches are often catching up (at least ours is) with the latest.  Churches should be setting the pace and in the forefront of creativity.  We serve a creative God who desires for us to be creative. There are tools out there that have yet to be tapped.  We must use every form of media to get the most important message out – the message of God’s love!

6.  Passion starts on the stage.
The Jonas Brothers brought some big-time energy.  I love seeing Christian young man – raised in the church – successful.  They have a passion for each other, their music and their fans – and man it shows.  I guess the questions is, “Our we that passionate about our Christ, our churches and our people?”  Can people see it?  They must see our passion for God in everything that we say and do.  Passion starts with the leadership.  Worship should have passion.  Teaching should have passion.

You can learn in any environment.  So glad I went to the concert with Mary and Malachi.  I have some NEW, FRESH ideas that I am bringing to The Point because of it.

X Conference Update

29 06 2010

So excited to add Pete Wilson to our lineup this year.  Pete is the founding pastor of Cross Point Church in Nashville, Tennessee.  Cross Point is a 7 year-old church, which reaches over 3,000 people each weekend through its 4 campuses, located around the Nashville area.  Pete’s a pastor, speaker, and author who resides in Nashville with his wife, Brandi, and their 3 boys.

His first book, entitled “Plan B” is now available (Get it at AMAZON).  I am reading it now – awesome!  Pete is an amazing leader and incredible pastor.  He will bring a great creativity to our conference.

The X Conference is scheduled for May 18-19, 2011.  Mark your calendars and save the date.  It is going to blow your ministry!

Don’t miss it!  Dino Rizzo, Pete Wilson and more!

Rustproof

8 06 2010

I remember meeting with one of the Exec’s at Rustproof Records (no longer exists) back in 1999 about developing a “Road Pastor” position for their Christian bands (Polarboy, Broomtree, etc).  Basically, I would fly to wherever they are and keep these young guns accountable, spiritual fed and moving forward.  The budget did not allow for the position.

One of the coolest things was their mission.  And I used this mission for years in youth ministry as my personal ambition – “At the end of the long days and late nights did anyone hear about Jesus?”  I love that.  I still use it!

That has to be the ambition of all Christ-followers – will anyone hear about Jesus through my words, actions or attitudes?

Today look for opportunities to demonstrate God’s love.  They are there!!!

Vertical Teaching Series

22 04 2010

I am excited about our new teaching series in May – VERTICAL.  It is a 3-week series on prayer.  This is an area that all Christ-followers need to grow in – including me.  So I am pumped about bringing this to The Point.  It comes out of my heart!

Here’s our graphic:

God is listening!!!

Blogging and Journaling

22 04 2010

I have always been an advocate of journaling.  I have written prayers, dreams and secrets to God for years.  Blogging has become a new habit of mine.  I have done it since 2007 (ever since we launched The Point).  Both have become part of my weekly routine.  I don’t do either every day – that gets pretty boring for an ADDHD guy.  ADDHD, what’s that?  Attention Deficit Disorder in High-Def!  That describes me!

Journaling is a personal thing.  It is thoughts and prayers that I seldom share with anyone.  It’s private.

Blogging is a public thing.  The writings are things that I want to share with everyone!

Why do I write?

1.  I want to pour out my heart to God, undistracted!
2.  I want others to learn from my experiences!
3.  I want to leave behind something for my children.
4.  I want to impact more than just those I know face to face.

My goal in life is to “live a life worth writing about.”  Will someone want to write about my life?  My family? My ministry?
