Mutatio

10 06 2010

The Latin word for change is mutatio; which means to move or shift.

Change happens in life!  People change.  Jobs change. Majors in college change.  Relationships change.  You get the picture!  But one of the two hardest things to change is CHURCHES & COMMUNITIES.  So true.  Those changes don’t just happen.  Someone has to be the change maker!

Community
If you want to see God change your community you have to be proactive!  Prayer is the starting point but it is not the only thing we have in our gear!  We must be actively involved in seeing God change our communities.

Church
Church is the same.  We can’t just hope for change we have to help change take place.  Change is what we look for in lives and it must be built into the DNA of our churches.

Shift doesn’t just happen.  We have to make it happen.  To effect real change we have to be aggressive and focused on what God wants to do in our churches & communities!

Multi-Site Musings: Informal Discussion with Mark Batterson

29 07 2009

Today I had the privilege to sit with one of my heroes – yep, that’s right!  I spent some time with Mark Batterson, pastor of National Community Church (Washington, DC), and author of several books.  Mark is one of the most gifted and creative leaders in America.  He is an asset to the Body of Christ.

The topic of discussion was BECOMING A MULTI-SITE.  The Point is only months away from launching its 2nd location on Long Island.  Very exciting.  So I wanted to learn from someone who is doing it and is several years ahead of us.

Here’s my learnings from today:

1.  Ask the right question:  ”Why Not?

2.  It’s all about the vision – Multi-Site is a calling.

3.  Always look at the practical – can you afford to buy or is mobile the right direction?

4. Your Launch Team needs to be more than attenders, they must serve.

5.  Teaching is critical – how will you communicate – Live or Video?  Honestly assess how well you actually communicate. Read the rest of this entry »

Day 3: Love God with All Your Heart

17 02 2009

0310283671READING:  Pages 41-47

“Love God.”  That is where it all begins.  Love is from God.  It flows from God.  If this is true (which I believe it is) then in order to truly love people we must first love God!!!  Here’s the thing – our love for God must be with ALL of our life.  Every part of who we are must reveal an deep, authentic love for God.

You can’t give God only a small part … it must be the all part! Read the rest of this entry »

Day 2: The Attraction of Lesser Things

17 02 2009

0310283671READING ASSIGNMENT:  Pages 29-39

Throughout this series we are going to be compelled to “place the highest value on relationships.”  Too often it seems like we put a higher value on possessions, position and popularity and we fail in our greatest asset – people!  Our greatest amount of effort and energy needs to be placed in what will last!

We get so attracted to the temporary!  I am not sure why.  Maybe its the draw of the excitement or the emotions of life, but it seems hard for all of us (myself included) to prioritize our relationships to the highest level. Read the rest of this entry »

Back Home

14 02 2009

It has been 2 years since we took a family vacation.  Time and money have a lot to do with that!  When we started The Point we knew there would be sacrifices … so one of the things we put on the “chopping block” was getting away.  But God miraculously provided us with a vacation to Orlando.  Someone provided us with their time share … several friends gave us some cash to have a good time … friends in Florida gave us their car for the week … we are a blessed family!!!  I will never take that for granted!!!!

Glad to be home … ready to roll … we have our first ever church Valentine’s Day Dinner tonight – should be a blast!!!  Can’t wait for The Point tomorrow … missed everyone!

I am refreshed and ready to rock!!!!
