Portable Solutions

30 11 2009

The portable church is faced with lots of pro’s and even a few con’s.  I think the positives far outweigh the negatives – by far.  One of our core values is that the church should find itself in the marketplace – that requires being portable (for most).  That’s why we meet in a movie theater!  We love it!

After nearly 2 years of setting up and tearing down every week I am not tired or frustrated.  In fact, this increases our volunteer involvement.  We are used to it!  To be honest it seems like another day at the office.

Last week we had some sound challenges.  This week we brought in the tools and repaired our ailing sound system.  Most of what we have is used and aging.  So the Pastor turned Technician this week to troubleshoot and help repair – we did it!  Sound was GREAT!

For every problem the portable church faces it forces us to be creative.  And we often have to be re-creative!

So if you are portable here’s my advice:

1.  Enjoy the journey.
The church is not about buildings.  It is about people.  Don’t wish for what God has not provided yet – be content where you are, with what you have. Read the rest of this entry »

212

25 11 2009

Let me share with you a simple law of physics.  It’s this. Water boils at 212 degrees.  Water does not boil at 200, 205 or even 211 degrees.  It is specific.  It requires 212 degrees to get the water pulsating.  Water can be 1 degree from the boiling point!  The same is true spiritually!  We can be 1 degree from being in the sweet spot of God’s will for our lives.  The hot spot from living an above-average-spiritual life!

The goal of The Point is to see all of us living a 212 life!  No settling.  Our prayer as a team is to see us all moving forward in our spiritual life!

Our staff has been creating/developing a spiritual growth strategy for 2010.  We will be unveiling it soon.  It has been something we have been working on for a few weeks!  If you want to take your life with God to 212 then get involved and experience The Point at full temp in 2010.

(You don’t have to wait).

Living Beyond Me: Special Offering

24 11 2009

I am excited to share with you information regarding our “Living Beyond Me” Special Offering that begins now and continues through January 31, 2010.

Christmas offering LOGO

Over the two years, we have seen our church grow from just a handful of people to a great church of 175 people in Westbury (averaging 105 at each service). Along the way we have done all we can to help people DISCOVER God, DEVELOP relationships and DEVOTE their lives to serving.  With this offering we are able to deepen our impact on Long Island and beyond. Interesting & Unintentional

23 11 2009

What a Sunday we had at The Point!  You could truly sense the presence of God in the theater.  Worship was amazing.  Message seemed to connect!  We had a record November attendance!  I love it when things can be “less than perfect” in a service, but God still makes sense of it all.  It was an interesting morning!

Here’s some fun facts:

1.  Our drum monitor would not work!  Great job Nick working through it!

2.  The left side of the Main Speakers did not work at all.  Interesting thing – hardly anyone noticed!

3. Our Visual Tech could not make it.  I ran the entire video elements schedule from my iphone – yep “there’s an app for that.”

4.  I walked away from my notes.  “Yesterday at Paintball I shot one of our guys in the chest on accident from 10 feet away.  He now has four nipples.  Can I say the “n” word in church?”  Lots of laughs.  First time that ever happened.

5.  As I was finishing the message – bringing people to a place of decision – the pre-show for the theater came on.  Well, at least the music.  Flowed with it.  Some people thought it was planned.

None of the above was planned.  It happened.  The cool thing is God was still there.  He works and moves beyond us and often in spite of us.  I love it when God reveals that he “chose the foolish things of the world” – that was so true yesterday!

Don’t you love God’s sense of humor?

It's the Most Wonderful Time of The Year

This is How We Feel Today

Emotional

I got pretty emotional today at our Business Meeting as we celebrating the progress of The Point.  In fact, I cried.  Yep.  It’s true.  It was 3 1/2 years ago when God placed the vision of The Point in the hearts of Mary and I.  Since then our family has been on a wild ride!  It has been so fun!!!

Here’s what I have learned about emotions:  Even though we get emotional.  Our emotions were never meant to lead us but to follow our decisions based on God’s Word.

My emotions got the best of me today.  Not because they lead my decisions, but because I look at how we have followed God and how faithful he has been.  He has been consistent!

I believe OUR BEST IS STILL TO COME.  I can’t wait to look back 5, 10 even 20 years down the road to see what God has in store for our church – 250, 500, 1000, 5,000, 10,000 people – 1, 5, 10, 25 locations – I am not sure, but I know what God has for us is HUGE!!!!

Let’s enjoy the journey!
